From 20-21 October 2015 students from Kindergarten to Year 6 at Holy Spirit Primary, St Clair held activities during recess and lunch to raise money for people living in poverty.
Through these initiatives, students were focused on fulfilling Christ’s command to ‘love one another as He has loved us’ and exercise this love on behalf of those whose circumstances reduce them to extreme poverty.

Religious Education Coordinator Lorraine Alexander said that these initiatives empower the students to know that they are not helpless in today’s world and that they, young as they are, can make a difference in the lives of others.
‘Students understand that they have done this in response to Christ’s call to love,’ Lorraine said.
Principal Anne Hines said the Mission Week activities at Holy Spirit are planned and run by the students.
‘Students take full responsibility for all the fundraising, from organisation and collection of money, to the clean-up afterwards,’ Anne said. ‘The days foster a generosity of spirit and a deep awareness of those less fortunate.’
‘This year, like previous years we are expecting to raise about $3,000 for those in need,’ she said.

Year 5 student Rosina Nicholopoulos said her fellow students put a lot of effort into raising money for Catholic Mission.
‘We feel very satisfied that we can do it all on our own,’ Rosina said. ‘We are responsible for all the ideas and the organising of the activities; we create team games, sell ice creams, do hair sprays, have doughnut eating competitions and much more.’
‘It’s a great day but everyone knows that it’s not just about having fun,’ she said. ‘Our efforts are made to raise money for a really great cause.’
‘This year Catholic Mission will be sending money to Madagascar to put clean water into schools and villages,’ she said. ‘This contribution makes me proud to be a student at Holy Spirit.’

🔟 Friends of Ten in Year 1! 🔟 Our Year 1 mathematicians have been busy mastering their Friends of Ten! 🧠✨ To help these number pairings stick, we’ve been put to the test with some friendly competition. Students have been using tens frames to challenge their partners, racing to see who can be the first to call out the matching ""friend"" to make ten. Whether it’s 6+4 or 8+2, our learners are getting faster every day! It’s been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and growing confidence with their mental math strategies. Ask your little mathematician tonight: ""I have a 3, who is my friend of ten?"" 🙋♂️🙋♀️ #Year1Maths #FriendsofTen #ActiveLearning #FutureMathematicians
