2018 K Calmsley Hill City Farm Excursion

20 May 2018

2018 Calmsley Hill 2771000

Holy Spirit Kindergarten students, together with their teachers and helpers, recently visited Calmsley Hill City Farm as part of their Science unit. Here they were able to get up close to a range of native and farmyard animals.

The children were very excited about their visit to the farm.

Some of the children told us what they liked ...

I liked when we patted the animals and when we went on the tractor ride. I also liked when I volunteered to have a go using the whip. I felt a bit nervous but it was fantastic.
Lucas  KW

I liked when the dog rounded up the sheep. I also liked the tractor ride because we went down a big hill. I was a little bit scared but it was great fun.
Kaden  KR

I patted a rabbit and a chick and they felt really soft. When I milked the cow milk came out of the udder. I felt very excited to go to the farm.

On Tuesday 16th September, Year 6 students journeyed to Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School, Seven Hills, to support their classmate, Elijah, in the Western Division Semi-Final of the Voice of Youth Competition. Elijah was one of seven students chosen to represent their school cluster at the event. The competitors delivered a wide range of speeches on topics from artificial intelligence and social media to the power of determination. Elijah's speech, "Oh Precious Life," focused on the value of life and the importance of being grateful for the gift of our own existence. All the participants spoke with remarkable passion and confidence, representing their schools with pride. Their messages prompted the audience to think and reflect, and the Year 6 students listened attentively to each speech. The Year 6 students and staff would like to extend their gratitude to Mrs. Garzaniti for providing the opportunity to attend and support their classmate. They also thank the teachers and parents for their continued support throughout the competition. Well done Elijah! We are so very proud of you.

Our Year 2 students gathered for a special liturgy as part of their Religious Education unit “What is a Sacrament?” 💒 During the liturgy, each child received a candle as a reminder to let their light shine and share God’s love with others. 🕯️✨ Through prayer, song (we've added a video to this post) and reflection, the students showed great reverence as they celebrated God’s grace at work in the sacraments. We are so proud of our Year 2 students for their participation and faith-filled hearts. May they continue to shine brightly as signs of God’s love in our world. 🙏🌟

Year 4 have been busy creating their own shields of faith! 🛡️ Each shield shows how God protects and guides us through prayer, kindness, honesty, and forgiveness. Just as a shield keeps us safe, God is always our protector and strength. 🙏💙

Over the weekend, some of our students celebrated their First Holy Communion across two beautiful Masses — one led by Father Percival and the other by Father Peter. 🙏 The children looked wonderful and showed such reverence as they received Jesus in the Eucharist for the first time. It was a special and faith-filled moment for them, their families, and our whole parish community. 💒✨ May God continue to guide and bless them as they grow in faith, hope, and love. 🌟

Get ready to be a little bit healthier, a little bit safer, and a whole lot smarter! 🤩 This week, kindy students had a fantastic time learning all about staying healthy with an incursion delivered by some amazing Aussie animal characters! 🐨🦘 Here's a snapshot of what we learned: Charlie the Cockatoo taught us the importance of a healthy breakfast to kickstart our day. 🥣 Platypus Perry showed us how to get a sparkling smile by brushing our teeth for two minutes, twice a day. ✨ Chunky the Koala taught us all about sun safety and why a hat and sunscreen are our best friends. ☀️ And we can't forget about staying hydrated! A Pelican reminded us to drink plenty of water. 💧 The kids had a wonderful time learning these valuable lessons! We hope they'll be practicing these healthy habits at home. #NSWschools #HealthyHabits #Incursion #PrimarySchool #AussieAnimals #KidsHealth #SunSafety #SmileSparkle ✨

📚✨ Our Year 4 students are finishing the term with a creative writing adventure – fractured fairy tales! ✨📚 We’ve been revisiting what makes a fairy tale, and exploring how precise vocabulary – especially adjectival and adverbial phrases – can add richness and detail to a text. The students recently retold Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and now we can’t wait to see how they “fracture” the tale with their own imaginative twists!
