2018 K Calmsley Hill City Farm Excursion

20 May 2018

2018 Calmsley Hill 1781000

2018 Calmsley Hill 2771000

Holy Spirit Kindergarten students, together with their teachers and helpers, recently visited Calmsley Hill City Farm as part of their Science unit. Here they were able to get up close to a range of native and farmyard animals.

The children were very excited about their visit to the farm.

Some of the children told us what they liked ...

I liked when we patted the animals and when we went on the tractor ride. I also liked when I volunteered to have a go using the whip. I felt a bit nervous but it was fantastic.
Lucas  KW

I liked when the dog rounded up the sheep. I also liked the tractor ride because we went down a big hill. I was a little bit scared but it was great fun.
Kaden  KR

I patted a rabbit and a chick and they felt really soft. When I milked the cow milk came out of the udder. I felt very excited to go to the farm.

Our Year 5 students have been diving deep into the Gospels this week exploring the powerful moment when Peter declares that Jesus is the Messiah. ✝️ Today they were inestigating the literal sense of the text. They worked hard to identify the who, where, when and what of the story, ensuring every answer was backed by proof. Students underlined direct evidence from the text to support their answers. 📝 It was wonderful to see such focussed engagement connected to their task.

Yesterday, our school community gathered under the Year 2 COLA for a moving Anzac Day service. It was a beautiful opportunity to come together in prayer and reflection to honour the courage and sacrifice of those who have served our country. We are incredibly proud of our students, who demonstrated such reverence and respect throughout the commemoration. A special thank you to our Year 6 FIAT team for leading the ceremony with such grace and leadership. May the Anzac spirit of mateship and endurance continue to inspire us all. Lest We Forget. 🌹

☀️ Sun, Speed, and Spirit at the Holy Spirit Athletics Carnival! ☀️ What an incredible day we had under the sun! We kicked things off on our brand-new track with some fast-paced 800m runners setting the bar high early on. Once the buses rocked up, the real action ignited with some extremely close 100m heats that had everyone on the edge of their seats. The talent continued across the field with huge throws in discus and shot put, alongside some massive leaps in the long jump! The children’s cheers could be heard from miles away, and their incredible team spirit was evident in every single event. Of course, these days would not be possible without the unwavering support of our teachers and amazing parents. A special, heartfelt thank you goes out to the wonderful parent who supplied the entire school with an ice block—it was the perfect treat to beat the heat! 🍦 We are definitely setting a trend here, and there are big things to come for Holy Spirit athletics! 🏆 Please see our newsletter this weekend for full access to our photos. #HolySpiritAthletics #SchoolSpirit #AthleticsCarnival #CommunityLove #FutureChampions #TrackAndField

To begin Term 2, our Stage 3 students led us beautifully in an Easter Prayer Liturgy, guiding our community in reflecting on the joy and hope of Jesus’ Resurrection. In this season of Eastertide, we are reminded that Jesus is alive and present among us, calling us to live with faith, love, and compassion each day. Through thoughtful prayer and reflection, our students helped us recognise what the Resurrection means for us now. We thank our Stage 3 students for leading us in such a meaningful and prayerful celebration

🌏 Staff Formation Day – Living Our Faith: Catholic Social Teaching in Action Prayer, reflection, and action shaped our Staff Formation Day. Through collaborative experiences—including discussion, creative tasks, jigsaw learning, photo analysis, poetry, and script writing—staff deepened their understanding of Catholic Social Teaching (CST) in action. These experiences invited staff to reflect on how the principles of CST—Human Dignity, the Common Good, Solidarity, the Preferential Option for the Poor, and Care for Creation—call them to live their faith authentically in their daily practice as educators. The day concluded with Mass, presided over by Father Percival, strengthening our Catholic identity and renewing our shared mission to serve with compassion, justice, and hope. 🙏 Faith in action begins with us. We look forward to welcoming our families back tomorrow for Term 2, continuing to grow together as a community shaped by faith, hope, and love..

Yesterday, our Stage 3 students reverently led our school community in a solemn Good Friday liturgy. Through prayer and reflection, they helped us enter more deeply into the significance of this sacred day. We are grateful for the way our students guided us in remembering Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice and love, inviting us all to pause, reflect and pray together as a faith community. We are proud of all our students who participated respectfully in liturgies throughout Holy Week, showing reverence and a deepening understanding of this sacred time. 🙏

This afternoon, we continued our journey of Holy Week, led by our Stage 2 students, focusing on Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane and His arrest. Through their thoughtful reenactment and moving liturgical movement, our Year 3 and Year 4 students helped our school community reflect on Jesus’ message of faith, courage, and trust in God. This experience is an important part of continuing our Holy Week journey as we prepare our hearts for Easter. Thank you to our Stage 2 students and teachers for leading us in such a meaningful and prayerful reflection. ✝️ More photos will be available in this week’s newsletter.
