Holy Spirit Kindergarten students, together with their teachers and helpers, recently visited Calmsley Hill City Farm as part of their Science unit. Here they were able to get up close to a range of native and farmyard animals.
The children were very excited about their visit to the farm.
Some of the children told us what they liked ...
I liked when we patted the animals and when we went on the tractor ride. I also liked when I volunteered to have a go using the whip. I felt a bit nervous but it was fantastic.
Lucas KW
I liked when the dog rounded up the sheep. I also liked the tractor ride because we went down a big hill. I was a little bit scared but it was great fun.
Kaden KR
I patted a rabbit and a chick and they felt really soft. When I milked the cow milk came out of the udder. I felt very excited to go to the farm.

In Maths, our Year 5 students have been taking their learning beyond the classroom to focus on the practical application of measurement. ๐ Their mission was to select the most effective tool to measure different parts of our playground. Students had to choose between a 30cm ruler, a trundle wheel, a metre ruler, and a measuring tape and then justify exactly why that tool was the right one for the job! Despite the rain, ๐ง๏ธ they had a fantastic time putting their skills to the test in the great outdoors.25 Feb 2026

The students in year 6 have been working hard during writing. โ๏ธ They are learning how to write an imaginative text that clearly communicates their ideas by weaving together simple, compound, and complex sentences to create a sophisticated narrative rhythm. By integrating adjectival phrases to define nouns and detailed adverbial phrases to explain precisely when, where, or how actions unfold, they paint vivid pictures for their audience. These young authors use precise vocabulary to capture the reader's imagination, always finishing their process by rereading and editing their work to ensure clear cohesion. Well done Year 6!
